Ashley Furniture company takes down its 'For Sale' sign

In May, furniture giant Ashley Furniture unveiled plans to open its e-commerce headquarters, Ashcomm LLC, in the heart of historic Ybor City.

In June, the Wisconsin-based Ashley confirmed it had put itself up for sale for a possible $3 billion.

In July, Ashley said never mind and took itself off the market. The company this week said it would be best to continue under its existing private ownership.

Ashley CEO Todd Wanek said in a statement that the largest U.S. furniture maker came to its decision after "many discussions with several great firms."

That's probably reassuring news for Ashcomm, Ybor and Tampa area economic development officials who had barely finished the e-commerce deal before the company's future went on the sales block.

"While Ashley, like all U.S. manufacturers, must address a challenging environment, it has the benefits of stable ownership, passionate employees, loyal customers, exciting products, and lots and lots of opportunity for continued growth," Wanek said.
