Bloomin' Brands, Outback parent, reports loss due to IPO costs

Tampa's Bloomin' Brands Inc., parent of Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill and three other restaurant chains, reported improved revenues of just under $953 million in the quarter ended Sept. 30. But the company also posted a nearly $36 million loss in net income in the same quarter on expenses attributed to the company going public in the third quarter, and from costs associated with early retirement of some debt. The company said it renovated 54 Outback Steakhouse restaurants. And it opened 10 new locations, including five Bonefish Grills, two Carrabba's, two company-owned international Outback Steakhouses and one international Outback Steakhouse franchise location.
