The Tampa Bay Rays may have a new measure for success and popularity.
Bay area Dunkin' Donuts franchises have been giving away doughnuts to customers who say "the Rays won" to cashiers the day after each Rays' win for the past two seasons.
And this year, the doughnuts have been gobbled up at nearly twice last year's pace.
After 73 games this season, 102,100 doughnuts had been given away. At the same point in 2007, just 58,608 free doughnuts were served. And the per-game doughnut uptake ratio is up 26 percent. That's 2,400 free doughnuts per game, vs. 1,776 per game last year.
