Local Arby's franchises file for bankruptcy protection

Citing slumping sales, a Wesley Chapel franchisee that owns seven Arby's in the Tampa Bay area and 25 in three states has filed for Chapter 11 protection from creditors in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Tampa. The stores are in the name of four separate companies controlled by Christopher Doyle and his sister Donna Doyle in which other family members share ownership interest. The local stores are in Brandon, Lutz, Valrico, Temple Terrace and Wesley Chapel plus in Tampa at 7372 W Waters Ave. and 3820 S Dale Mabry. The group listed interests in two other stores in Brooksville and Clearwater that closed. There are 27 Arby's in the Tampa Bay area, which are part of Atlanta-based Wendy's/Arby's Group. Sales in the national Arby's system plunged 9 percent in 2009.
