Peg's Cantina and Brew Pub on Beach Boulevard in Gulfport has closed.

The popular restaurant known for its thin-crust pizza, Mexican food and craft beer selection in Gulfport's eclectic arts district closed its doors for good after 11 years in business, owners confirmed in an email Wednesday.

A new concept will take over in Peg's former space at 3038 Beach Blvd. S, next month, they added, but declined to elaborate on the details.

Peg's Cantina, owned by Peg Wesselink and her husband, Tony Dodson, opened in 2004 and eventually moved to a renovated bungalow on Beach Boulevard in downtown Gulfport.

The restaurant was featured when Gulfport was a finalist in the Best for Food category in Rand McNally's Best of the Road competition in 2011.

St. Petersburg's Cycle Brewing got its start inside Peg's Cantina, as it was launched there by Wesselink's son, Doug Dozark.
