Florida Gator fans will cheer at this news. University donor L. Gale Lemerand, who has a street and athletic center named after him, has signed a franchise deal to open several Pie Five Pizza restaurants in Florida.
Lemerand owns or is a partner in 29 restaurants statewide, including Stonewood Grill & Tavern, Houligan's sports grill and Perkins Restaurant & Bakery. Pie Five is a subsidiary of Dallas-based Pizza Inn Holdings, a publicly traded company with about 300 franchises. The fast-casual concept is known for its handcrafted pizzas made to order and cooked in five minutes.
None are planned for the Tampa Bay area at this point, but 10 are headed to the Melborne, Daytona and, of course, Gainesville markets.
