Publix Super Markets Inc. has completed its roughly $500-million purchase of 49 Albertsons stores in Central and North Florida from Cerberus Capital Management. The stores, including 17 in the Tampa Bay area, will reopen under the Publix banner between a few and 18 months, depending on the complexity of the remodeling job. So far three in Tallahassee, Orlando and Winter Park have been identified as future GreenWise stores, the Lakeland chain's version of a natural/gourmet foods market. The purchase doubles Publix's collection of package liquor stores to 90. That puts Publix among the biggest holders of Florida liquor licenses, but still well behind the 200 held by ABC Fine Wine and Spirits. Publix had none until 2003.
