Publix puts solar energy plan into motion

Publix Super Markets Inc. is testing solar panels on three of its South Florida stores in a joint venture to save electricity with Florida Power and Light and the Florida Solar Energy Center. By year's end, a set of the flat laminate panels, which require no structural re-engineering, will also appear on the roof of the company's metallic green headquarters in Lakeland and on a pedestal that adjusts to the angle of the sun. "It's part of our commitment to renewable energy sources," spokeswoman Shannon Patten said.
