Signs point to Cost Plus World Market opening in Wesley Chapel

Published July 3 2017

Signage indicates that Cost Plus World Market Inc. is coming to Wesley Chapel. A banner outside The Grove at Wesley Chapel, as well as building permits, indicate that the Alameda, Calif.-based company will open an 18,600-square-foot location at the shopping center.

"The cat's out of the bag!" The Grove wrote on its Facebook page Monday. The caption accompanied a picture of a "Coming soon" sign for Cost Plus, which the post said will open in 2018.

Cost Plus sells food, home decor and furniture. Its name comes from its pricing structure — items are sold at 10 percent above their at-cost value. It is a subsidiary of Bed Bath and Beyond Inc.

According to Pasco County records, the company applied for permits in May 2016 for a Cost Plus World Market location at 5833 Wesley Grove Blvd.

Representatives of The Grove at Wesley Chapel could not be reached for comment. As of Monday afternoon, a Cost Plus spokeswoman had not answered a list of emailed questions.

It won't be Cost Plus' first appearance in Tampa Bay. Cost Plus announced a Clearwater store in 2016 at the Sunset Point 19 shopping center. The company has not yet announced an opening date.

Cost Plus has around 260 stores across the country.
