Sand Key Learning Center opens

Lisa Childers, owner and director of Sand Key Learning Center at 6534 Ridge Road in Port Richey, is proud to announce the opening of the facility. Tours are available. The center serves children ages 3 through 12.

Childers has 18 years of director experience in early childhood education. Her credits include: Level 2 director credential, child development associate, voluntary pre-kindergarten director endorsement credential and trainer endorsement credential. She holds state certifications and in-service training.

Medical center names infection specialist

Rosemary Barker has been named infection control specialist at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Barker has more than 30 years of nursing experience since graduating from Geneva School of Nursing, Geneva, N.Y. She received her certification in infection control in 1995 and has been an infection control practitioner for 16 years.

Her duties will include monitoring culture reports for MRSA and other infections that require patients be placed on the appropriate isolation precautions; ensuring compliance with hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment; reporting significant diseases to the health department; providing education and consultation to patients, their families, clinical and medical staff; and reporting findings and presenting plans of action to the appropriate committees.

Medical center offers new surgery

Pasco Regional Medical Center became the first hospital in Pasco to offer single incision laparoscopic surgery. The pioneering surgery was performed in April. The single-incision technique is also used for many procedures including hernia repair and cholecystectomy, also know as gallbladder removal.

"Pasco Regional is equipped to offer patients the most advanced forms of laparoscopic surgery," said chief of surgery Dr. P. Krishnaraj. "We are pleased to continue being at the forefront of minimally invasive surgery."
