Did MTV Networks Co. cheat Lou Pearlman when it brought in Sean Combs to take over the Making of the Band series?
That's what bankruptcy trustee Soneet Kapila says in a new suit he filed against MTV on behalf of Trans Continental Television Productions, one of Pearlman's former companies.
Kapila said MTV never paid Trans Continental its fair share of proceeds from the series and had no right to ditch Pearlman in favor of Combs in the sequels, now up to eight seasons. The suit, filed in Orlando bankruptcy court, demands an accounting. MTV did not respond to a request for comment.
Pearlman is in federal prison, serving time for stealing $300-million from banks and investors.
