In advance of making some job reductions, the Tampa Bay Times said Wednesday it will offer an incentive plan to staffers who choose to leave the company voluntarily.
Full-time and certain part-time staffers are eligible for the offer, which would pay up to 13 weeks severance depending on years of service plus an additional two weeks' pay, according to a memo sent to the newspaper's staff. The offer runs March 10-24.
"We are finding some ways to improve our results without compromising our quality,'' said Jounice Nealy-Brown, the Times' communications director. "We want to support the colleagues whose jobs will be affected."
The memo did not specify the number of possible layoffs.
