With the change of summer to fall, Cypress Gardens Adventure Park in Winter Haven will be experimenting with a change of its own: weekend-only hours.

Starting after Labor Day, the park will close its gates every Monday through Thursday in September, hoping to offset the historic attendance drop that comes with the summer season's end.

"We looked at past attendance and trends and saw during that time attendance during the week was 50 to 200 guests," said Haley Kish, the park's spokesperson. "It was a business decision."

Kish said part-time hours during off-peak months are common in the regional theme park industry, which sees steeper seasonal changes than attractions like Disney World.

Park officials have not confirmed whether the changes would carry on into October.

"We're just looking how things go, and will make a decision from there," Kish said.
