Many restaurants dish up free birthday cakes and candles to win group business. Now Walt Disney World has upped the ante by offering free park admission on any visitor's birthday during 2009.
At full price that's a $75 ticket. It's part of Disney's new campaign to promote its theme parks as a place to celebrate special occasions. Visitors can register in advance online at disneyparks.com and read the rules. Or they can just show up at the gate armed with a photo ID such as a driver's license as birth date proof.
Tourism experts think it's smart way to lure groups of paying friends or relatives the same day.
"Having an extra person in the park doesn't cost them anything, but it's still a benefit because they have to buy food and drinks," said Mike Lynn, a Cornell University marketing professor.
