Pier Diary, May 1: A global return

A family from Canada stopped by the Pier about 10 years ago on their way to sail around the world. They were just four of the thousands of visitors Carol Gray met during 25 years working at her store, Crystal Mirage. She sells glass art, jewelry, original perfume bottles and beyond.

"It was a mother and father and two children. He said they would stop back by in a year," Gray recalled as she entered the last month of running her business there. "They came back three years later and came and talked to me."

Gray asked the father what was the hardest thing about the journey.

"Pirates," he said.
