Pinellas names interim director for Visit St. Pete/Clearwater tourism agency

CLEARWATER — David Downing, the deputy director of Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, was appointed as interim director of the Pinellas County tourism agency on Wednesday.

Downing will lead the public agency after executive director D.T. Minich departs on Aug. 15. Minich recently accepted the same job with Experience Kissimmee, the tourism arm that promotes Osceola County.

Downing was an editor with Zagat Survey in New York when he came to the Pinellas agency in 2007 to become director of public relations and communications. He was promoted to deputy director in 2009.

The appointment was made by interim Pinellas County Administrator Mark Woodard.
