Passengers aboard the pool deck on the Norwegian Star enjoy the sunny weather in October. The ship was one of three that contributed to a booming weekend for the Port of Tampa.

The Port of Tampa set a single-day record for passenger traffic Sunday with an estimated 12,623 passengers embarking and disembarking on three cruise ships.

The previous record of 11,538 passengers was set April 15, 2006.

The three ships contributing to traffic at the port's three cruise terminals last weekend were Carnival Legend, Norwegian Star and Holland America's Ryndam. All told, the port is projecting a record 940,000 passengers this year.
