Tampa law firm Carlton Fields merging with Jorden Burt

Carlton Fields, a major Tampa law firm with 300 attorneys and consultants, said it plans to merge with the 70-attorney Jorden Burt law firm. Initially, the name of the combined firm will be Carlton Fields Jorden Burt with 10 offices. Carlton Fields chief executive officer Gary Sasso will serve as CEO of the combined firm.

"The fit between our law firms is natural and powerful," Sasso said in a statement. "Both firms have strong national practices in class action defense and high-stakes litigation."

Jorden Burt operates from three offices in Washington, D.C., Miami and Hartford, Conn. The deal, whose terms were not disclosed, is expected to close in early 2014.
