Women workers in Florida are earning about 84 percent of the weekly earnings of their male counterparts, the second-highest ratio since 1997, according to government data released Wednesday.
In 2011, Florida women earned about $668 per week compared to the $797 median weekly earnings for men, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Nationwide, women earned $684 in median weekly wages, just over 82 percent of men's earnings of $832.
The data is not a comparison of men and women working in the same industries or doing the same jobs, but rather a look at overall median wages by gender.
