K. Owen LaFave has been named senior vice president of commercial real estate at the Bank of Tampa. LaFave has more than 12 years of experience in banking and commercial real estate, all of which have been spent in Tampa. He was formerly with TD Bank, where he spent the past seven years working in a variety of commercial real estate roles, including formalizing a commercial real estate lending division as a business specialty line.
BankUnited, Tampa, announces that Michael Roth has been named vice president of corporate and commercial banking; and John Astrab IV has been named vice president, commercial banking relationship manager. Roth brings 16 years of banking experience to BankUnited, having most recently served as vice president of commercial banking for the West Florida region at Regions Bank. He is a decorated combat veteran, having earned multiple awards for combat valor and leadership, and was awarded three Bronze Stars. He is currently a company commander for the Florida Army National Guard. Astrab brings eight years' experience to BankUnited, having served as assistant vice president of commercial banking at BMO Harris Bank. Astrab earned his bachelor's degree from Fordham University and currently serves on the board of the Gulf Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He is also an assistant coach for the Jesuit High School cross country team.
Derrill L. McAteer has been named an associate at Smolker, Bartlett, Schlosser, Loeb & Hinds PA, Tampa. McAteer comes to the firm from Volusia County, where he served as an assistant county attorney. His practice concentrates in the areas of land use, commercial litigation, property rights and eminent domain. A fifth-generation Floridian, McAteer earned his juris doctorate with honors from the University of Florida.
