Clearwater sets up dolphins to welcome the RNC

A fleet of fiberglass dolphins has reported for duty in Clearwater. The decorated sea mammals, designed to welcome the Republican National Convention, will be on display at Pier 60 from Aug. 6 to Sept. 4. Originally planned as a pod of 38, the collection has grown to 50 sculptures, each with a sponsor and glammed up by a local artist. With the beaches, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium — and Winter, the movie-star mammal — dolphins make a natural ambassador for the city. More than 50,000 guests are expected to visit the bay area for the convention.
