Pam Bondi sues Tampa lawyer for alleged foreclosure-rescue scam

TAMPA — The Florida Attorney General's Office announced Thursday that it is suing Tampa lawyer Eric Mader, alleging he "ran a nationwide foreclosure-rescue operation that charged illegal fees and failed to provide promised assistance to consumers."

Attorney General Pam Bondi asserts Mader and his firm used websites mimicking government sites to draw in consumers and misrepresented that consumers would be enrolled in government-assistance programs or be eligible for loan modifications.

Bondi's office is seeking restitution for consumers as well as an order that Mader comply with the state's foreclosure-rescue laws. "We will not allow scam artists to defraud Florida's homeowners who are seeking financial relief," Bondi said in a statement.
