Victim's illness delays second rape trial

A judge on Thursday delayed the second trial for Bobby Lee Black III, who is accused of raping two elderly women in Zephyrhills in March 2007.

The victim of the second attack recently suffered a series of strokes and is not well enough to testify.

The woman, 70, took the stand this year when Black went on trial in the first rape. Her testimony, along with the other victim's, helped prosecutors show similarities between the attacks.

Black, 21, was convicted in that trial. Circuit Judge Pat Siracusa will sentence him on Sept. 17. The only legal sentence he can impose is life in prison.

Siracusa delayed the other trial until prosecutors can determine if and when the ill woman will be able to testify.
