TAMPA — A former Marine lance corporal has agreed to plead guilty to fraud and stealing the identities of other Marines, according to documents filed Tuesday in federal court.

Steven Lee Fickey, 30, used the names of current and former Marines to purchase a flat-screen television, portable DVD player, filet mignon and a camcorder, among other items, prosecutors said.

He used accounts with the Army and Air Force Exchange Services, which sells goods to members of the armed forces, to buy the items and have them sent to his Tampa apartment. Fickey initially told investigators he never ordered the items, and that a UPS delivery man refused to take them back.

Fickey was discharged from the military in 2000 after an 18-month stint with the Marines. A federal complaint was filed against him in November 2006.

Court records show he tried to commit suicide in early 2007 and was committed to an assisted living facility in Plant City. A judge later found him competent to have criminal charges brought against him.

Fickey is in federal custody and scheduled to enter a guilty plea Friday before U.S. District Judge Richard Lazzara. At his sentencing, Fickey faces up to 15 years in prison for identity theft and as much as 10 years in prison for access device fraud.
