Debra Lafave requests end to house arrest

TAMPA — Debra Lafave is asking a judge to cut short her three years of community control.

The former Greco Middle School teacher pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old student and was sentenced in November 2005 to three years of house arrest and seven years of probation.

As part of the plea agreement, she is allowed to apply for the third year of community control to be converted to straight probation.

Lafave, 27, has completed almost 28 months of the house arrest to date.

Her attorney, John Fitzgibbons, filed a motion Friday seeking an end to the house arrest.

A judge is scheduled to hear her request April 8.

There is a reason why the air in Tampa Bay is filled with playoff talk. If Thursday night's 12-8 Bucs preseason win over the Jaguars is any indication, it's also going to be filled with footballs thrown by quarterback Jameis Winston.

Doug Martin gets the Bucs’ only touchdown on a 2-yard run, squeaking past linebacker Telvin Smith in the first quarter. He has five carries for 30 yards.
