Doctors to evaluate Dontae Morris' capacity to stand trial

The man accused of killing two Tampa police officers in 2010 will be evaluated by two doctors, who will assess his competency to proceed with his cases.

Dontae Morris, 26, is charged with murder in the deaths of five men within 42 days culminating in the fatal June 29 traffic stop.

He is to first stand trial in the death of Rodney Jones, a 42-year-old father robbed and killed after he left the Cotton Club on N Albany Avenue.

On May 18, Circuit Judge William Fuente will hear the doctors' findings. Morris' mental condition during the alleged offenses is not part of this evaluation, only Morris' current ability to participate in his defense.
