Ex-Hillsborough Commissioner Kevin White can attend daughter's graduation

TAMPA — A federal judge has approved the request of former Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin White to attend his daughter's graduation at Florida State University in Tallahassee.

U.S. District Court Judge James Whittemore said White, who was sentenced to three years in prison and will surrender to the Federal Bureau of Prisons next month, can make the trip as long as he provides his contact information and itinerary to a supervisory officer.

White, 47, said he and his wife would leave Tampa on April 27 and return two days later.

A jury convicted White in November on seven corruption charges after he was accused of accepting bribes while he served as the chairman of the Hillsborough Public Transportation Commission.

White's request to travel was not opposed by U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill.
