Daniel Brunette, 33, of Brooksville, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in the shooting death of 22-year-old Darius Hampton. On the evening of June 4, the two men were driving to meet friends and started arguing. Brunette shot Hampton five times with a .38-caliber revolver in the parking lot of Withlacoochee State Trail on Croom-Rital Road in Ridge Manor and later buried his body in the Withlacoochee State Forest, prosecutors allege. His pretrial date is set for Aug. 1.
