Pasco guard accused of stealing prisoner identities for tax fraud

TAMPA — A Zephyrhills Correctional Institution officer used the identities of five inmates last year to file fraudulent claims for tax refunds totaling $14,274, according to a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday.

Jerry St. Fleur faces five counts of wire fraud and five counts of aggravated identity theft.

The indictment, filed May 13, alleges that he claimed refunds ranging from $996 to $7,324.

Jessica Cary, spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Corrections, said St. Fleur has been a correctional officer since Aug. 24, 2007. Reached after hours on Tuesday, she could not immediately say what action the department would take.
