DADE CITY — Tawnya Hines, who pleaded guilty Tuesday to wrapping her newborn baby in a towel and stuffing her in a bathroom cabinet, will be sentenced Thursday afternoon.
A court hearing lasted well into Tuesday night, as pyschologists and counselors testified about Hines' low IQ, limited mental capacity and troubled youth. Circuit Judge Pat Siracusa said he did not want to rush sentencing on the second-degree murder charge and had Hines, 31, taken into custody.
She could receive a lengthy prison sentence, but her lawyers are asking for probation with intensive mental health treatment.
