Plant City man sent to prison for taking scores of undocumented immigrants to Pinellas

TAMPA — A federal judge sentenced a Plant City man Wednesday to more than two years in prison for working with Pinellas County businesses to transport undocumented immigrants.

Herman Vazquez-Padilla, 32, pleaded guilty June 26 to a charge of conspiring to transport illegal aliens.

Prosecutors said businesses in Pinellas, which they did not name, would contact Vazquez-Padilla requesting undocumented workers. He would then recruit and transport those workers, charging them a fee for arranging the jobs. He was responsible for bringing in 100 workers since 2010, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Vazquez-Padilla was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison by Judge Steven D. Merryday.
