Six arrested in Spring Hill on drug charges

SPRING HILL — Complaints from neighbors about an unkempt home led to the arrest Thursday of six people on drug charges, authorities said.

Residents near 2255 Canfield Drive have logged several complaints with the Hernando Sheriff's Office in recent weeks about trash and junk piling up in the yard, according to a news release. Neighbors also said the ranch home on the corner of Canfield and Madeira Street lacked electricity and running water.

After watching the house, detectives got a search warrant. Items seized included hydromorphone tablets, several other types of prescription medications, one marijuana plant, a small amount of marijuana and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia.

The suspects arrested and their charges:

• Ryan Cutting, 26, possession and sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a day care; cultivation and possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Torie Szabo, 26, possession of a controlled substance; possession and cultivation of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Charles Cohen, 27, possession of drug paraphernalia.

• William Torres, 28, principle to sale of a controlled substance.

• Mark Davis, 49, and Michael Richards, 42, each of whom was charged with possession of controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Cutting and Torres were being held without bail in the Hernando County Detention Center on Friday because they were already out on bail for previous drug charges. Cohen was also being held without bail.

Davis was released after posting $5,500 bail. Richards was freed after posting bail of $10,500.

Szabo was being held Friday in lieu of $12,000 bail. Investigators contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families because she was several months pregnant at the time of her arrest.

A pit bull-type dog found at the home was turned over to Hernando County Animal Services. Authorities contacted county code enforcement officials to address the condition of the property.
