ST. PETERSBURG — Kelsey A. Johnson, charged with first-degree murder after killing a man with a sword, was found guilty this week of manslaughter.
He will be sentenced Oct. 9 for the 2006 crime.
Police said Johnson used a three-foot samuri-style sword to kill David Golly, 45, at an apartment in the 8100 block of 46th Ave. N, after an argument.
Defense attorney Bill Bennett argued it was a case of self-defense, not murder. If convicted of first-degree murder, Johnson, 37, would have been sentenced to life in prison. For manslaughter, he could receive up to 30 years.
