Man gets 15 years for having sex with teen
A 43-year-old transient will spend more than a decade in prison for having sex with a teenage girl with mental health issues.
Shannon Bonessa was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual battery on a mentally defective person and two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
Prosecutors say Bonessa met the 17-year-old girl at the Dunkin' Donuts at Spring Hill Drive and Mariner Boulevard in Spring Hill, gave her wine and then took her to a nearby abandoned house, where they spent the night.
Prosecutors said Bonessa admitted that the girl told him she was bipolar and intellectually disabled.
Circuit Judge Daniel B. Merritt Jr. levied four 15-year terms to be served concurrently. Bonessa is now classified as a sexual predator.
