The trial of Oliver Samuels, accused of killing his former girlfriend, began Tuesday.
He and Elfleter Bolden had dated for six months before she broke up with him in early 2010. Her family has said she began hanging out with a man Samuels didn't like.
About a month after the breakup in April 2010, authorities say, she was leaving the Reserve at Lake Pointe Apartments in St. Petersburg when Samuels confronted her outside, beat her with a tire iron and drove over her several times with his 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo.
She was 33.
Samuels, now 33, was arrested days later on a charge of first-degree murder.
Bolden had played basketball and excelled at St. Petersburg High. She became a certified nursing assistant and worked two jobs. She had considered going to school to become a licensed practical nurse.
