Crist appoints news Hillsborough judge

Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed Scott A. Farr to serve on the Hillsborough County Court. Farr, 53, of Odessa, will fill the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Paul L. Huey to the 13th Judicial Circuit.

Farr has been chief assistant attorney general in the Tampa Attorney General's office since 1994. Before that he was a partner at Cotter, Valerino, Zelman and Farr from 1992 to 1994 and at Zelman and Farr from 1990 to 1991.

Farr was an assistant statewide prosecutor from 1986 to 1990 and an assistant state attorney from 1983 to 1986.

He received his bachelor's degree from Auburn University and his law degree from the University of Florida.

    Snooty, who was the world's oldest living manatee, died in an accident, the South Florida Museum announced Sunday afternoon.

    Snooty, the Manatee County mascot, turns 60 on Monday. Hundreds of people came to the Parker Manatee Aquarium to see Snooty at his birthday party on Saturday. He was the first manatee to have a recorded birth date on July 21, 1948.
