Elizabeth Rice appointed Hillsborough circuit judge

Hillsborough County Judge Elizabeth Rice got promoted Tuesday to the circuit bench.

Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Rice to fill a vacancy left by Judge Marva Crenshaw, who now sits on the 2nd District Court of Appeal.

Rice, 44, has served as a county judge since 2005. She previously was a partner at the Stearns, Weaver, Miller, Alhadeff & Sitterson law firm. She earned her bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Florida.

Her new role means more work for the local Judicial Nominating Commission, which will now interview applicants to fill Rice's spot on the county bench.
