Former Republican Party of Florida chair Jim Greer has same attorney as Casey Anthony

TALLAHASSEE — Why should Jim Greer be smiling after the Casey Anthony verdict?

Because he has the same attorney, Cheney Mason.

Greer hired Mason to help fight six felony counts of theft, money laundering and orchestrating a scheme to defraud the Republican Party of Florida during his era as chairman. Greer's case is scheduled to resume later this month after being postponed as the Anthony trial dragged on.

Meanwhile, the reaction in Florida's political world to the Anthony verdict has been muted. State Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Republican attorney from the Panhandle, tweeted before the verdict that he had been watching the trial and thought Anthony should get the death penalty.

State Sen Paula Dockery, R-Lakeland, tweeted she wasn't surprised by the verdict: "Prosecutors did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt."
