Governor will consider four nominees for vacant county judge seat in Hernando

BROOKSVILLE — Gov. Rick Scott's office has four nominees to fill the vacancy left by former Hernando County Judge Donald Scaglione's move to Circuit Court.

The 5th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission interviewed 18 applicants and deliberated Wednesday, sending the nominees to Scott's office Thursday.

Two of the names will be familiar to Scott's office. Spring Hill private practice attorneys Thomas R. Eineman, 56, and John E. Napolitano, 51, were among the finalists for two circuit judge seats that opened in Hernando in recent months after judges sought transfers to Marion County.

The other two county judge nominees are Assistant State Attorney Donald "Sonny" McCathran, 41, who supervises the State Attorney's Office in Brooksville, and Raymond Sotomayor, 52, a private practice attorney in Tarpon Springs.

Scott's deadline to fill the vacancy is March 10.
