TAMPA — Hillsborough Circuit Judge Anthony Black received the governor's nod Wednesday to join the appellate bench.
Gov. Charlie Crist appointed Black to the 2nd District Court of Appeal, based in Lakeland. The judge will hear cases from 14 counties, including Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco.
Black, who presides over a felony trial division in Tampa, made the short list for the 2nd District Court of Appeal several times before getting picked.
"I'm thrilled," he said. "It's just a good extension of what I've been doing on the circuit court the last eight years."
Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Black to the circuit bench in 2002. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law and has an accounting degree from Arizona State University.
