Early snow wreaks havoc

Associated Press

A snowplow backs away from a street blocked by power lines in North Andover, Mass., on Monday in the wake of a storm that dumped as much as 30 inches of snow across the Northeast. Hundreds of thousands of people from Maine to Maryland were without power after the early nor'easter blew in over the weekend in a region more used to admiring fall foliage than shoveling snow this time of year. The storm was blamed for at least 21 deaths, most caused by falling trees, traffic accidents or downed wires.
