Car collides with school bus in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — A school bus collided with a car, sending the car's driver to the hospital Monday evening, according to St. Petersburg police.

The accident occurred just before 5 p.m. Monday when a bus headed south on Seventh Street S failed to yield to a Pontiac Sunfire going west on 62nd Avenue S, according to police. The bus, which was carrying 13 children from University Preparatory Academy, had a stop sign.

The car hit the bus, trapping the driver inside. The driver, a woman whose name wasn't released Monday, was pulled from the car by St. Pete Fire Rescue and taken to the hospital. She didn't have any visible serious injuries, according to police.

Three of the children had minor injuries, but weren't taken to the hospital.

The bus driver, whose name wasn't released, will be cited for failing to yield from a stop sign, police said.
