Sport and entertainment conference again headed for USF

Tickets are on sale for the third annual University of South Florida Sport & Entertainment Analytics Conference in late March. This year's gathering focuses on the business of sports, digging into the technical side of sports and entertainment marketing. Executives from the NHL, NBA and NBC Sports will speak to a crowd of business leaders and students interested in networking and learning more about data and decision-making. Other speakers include business professionals and a high school football coach with a now-famous "no punt" policy. About 250 people are expected to attend the sessions, scheduled for 1-5 p.m. March 29 and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. March 30 at the USF Alumni Center. Tickets are $50 for USF students and faculty, $75 for non-USF students, and $99 for professionals. For tickets and more information visit: bit.ly/USFSEAC2017.

Gender topics on tap at USF speaker series

USF's Humanities and Hops speaker series zeroes in on the topic of gender and masculinity this week at Southern Brewing and Winemaking in Seminole Heights. Faculty speakers are to be announced. The event begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28.

Talk to focus on agrarian view of modern society

In a talk called "American Myths and Agrarian Critiques," the chair of USF's department will discuss his work examining the agrarian critique of modern-day American society. Dell deChant centers his argument around "concepts of the sacred," which differ dramatically between agrarian culture and today's globalized, late-capitalist culture. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. March 1 in CW Bill Young Hall, room 206.
