TAMPA — A state auditor general's annual report released Monday admonished Hillsborough Community College for insufficiently monitoring the construction of the Regent, Riverview's highly criticized center for events and classrooms.
Rehashing findings from previous audits, the report faulted HCC for not closely following its $750,000 contribution to the building. Last year, the college demanded repayment of unspent and misused funds from the nonprofit board that constructed and manages the Regent.
The report also highlighted the lack of a repair and replacement fund, though the college said one was recently established.
An HCC spokeswoman said the college was disappointed by the findings and is already putting more controls in place.
