USF chases down mystery of fake Kim Kardashian event poster

The Kold Kase of Kim Kardashian started over the weekend.

The perpetrator, a klandestine kulprit with mayhem in mind, took a photograph of a flier. On the flier sat a beaming Kim Kardashian — socialite, new mother, famous for a naughty video and lots of bored, midlong stares into an E! camera. She was klad innocently in pink sequins.

An evening with Kim Kardashian. "Marketing Yourself to the World." Join us as Kim speaks about her journey to success. Kim will talk about the importance of time management, self-promotion and entrepreneurship. Don't miss this once in a lifetime event!

There was a time, a date, a place — 8 p.m. July 14, Marshall Student Center ballroom at the University of South Florida. There was a hashtag — #KIMatUSF.

The kunning mastermind tweeted the picture. Then, as happens, other people retweeted it.

Kim #Kardashian's #USF visit is to teach coeds how she got famous, will she be making a sex tape live?

IS THIS REAL LIFE

This is utter nonsense that #KIMatUSF is a real thing.

Tuesday, Tammi Flythe sat in a business meeting. Ping, ping, ping, ping. Her phone went crazy.

As the Marshall Center's marketing manager, her job was to manage the social media accounts, to know what was happening in the center. There was no way Kim Kardashian was really speaking at USF, a top research university that brings in entertaining celebrity speakers, yes, but also folks with an academic message.

This flier looked so legitimate, though, she got why people were confused. "It wasn't just a poorly put-together flier," Flythe said. "They worked on this flier."

Flythe called the building manager.

"Can you please go look through the building and see if this Kardashian poster is up?"

The building staff looked up and down the hallways of the complex, the heart of campus where students go to meet, to eat bagels and relax. There were no posters. Flythe looked again at the tweet, and saw the time stamp said Sunday. The Marshall Center is closed on Sundays.

The konundrum became klear. Perhaps the architect of anarchy posted it on a wall at home that night, or somewhere else. Flythe copied the image and superimposed the words FAKE EVENT in giant yellow letters. She tweeted.

Attention: The Kim Kardashian flier that is being spread through social media is a FAKE EVENT!

By now, the original tweet had been deleted. Someone on Twitter said a person named "Mike" was the brainchild. Others were just relieved their school was not hosting the star of Kim Kardashian: Fit in Your Jeans by Friday: Amazing Abs Body Sculpt, and other titles.

And where was Kardashian through all this? Giving birth, it seems. On the night the poster circulated, Kardashian's sister, Khloe, tweeted.

mommy/baby are healthy&resting. More info will come when the time is right!
