Hillsborough County back-to-school events: health fairs, fun expos and more

From on-campus activities to supply drives and fun, here is a look some back-to-school events in
Hillsborough County as the 2018-19 school year approaches.

Back to School Health Fairs: Several are scheduled in Tampa, hosted by the Back to School Coalition of Hillsborough County, the Bullard Family Foundation, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Susan Valdes, in concert with the Hillsborough County school system. The events offer free physicals and free immunizations for students in kindergarten through 12th grade who are on Medicaid or are uninsured. Three fairs are scheduled for Saturday: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Middleton High, 4801 N 22nd St.; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Bowers/Whitley Career Center, 13609 N 22nd St.; and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Leto High, 4409 W Sligh Ave. Two additional fairs are scheduled for Aug. 4: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Blake High, 1701 N Boulevard, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Raymond James Stadium, 4201 N Dale Mabry Highway. Online registration at back2schoolfair.org is required for the Blake High, Middleton High and Bowers/Whitley events. Physicals will not be offered for sports, Head Start or Child Care. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and an immunization record is required to receive shots. Back to School Fair: Starting at 10 a.m., the first 500 kids get a free book bag. There will also be a princess sing-along, live entertainment, exhibits, appearances by ThunderBug and Captain Fear and roaming pirates. Free. Westshore Plaza Mall, 250 Westshore Plaza, Tampa. Tampa Bay Youth Sports Expo: Kids, parents, coaches and sports administrators can sharpen their life and sport skills, while getting ready for school, with activities including interactive skills zones, live demonstrations, DJ dancing, games, food, vendors and a backpack giveaway.
