The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce again will honor local educators with its Teaching to Excellence breakfast on Aug. 8.

The event annually celebrates 300 new teachers from Riverview's elementary, middle and high school, as well as the Teachers of the Year from the past school year, and the principals from each school.

Community support helps drive the success with chamber business members and local residents composing supply stop tables for the attendees. Upon arrival, the teachers receive a goodie bag from the chamber, and then proceed through the pathway of supply stops. As well as meeting the representative from each of the businesses, the teachers will receive offers and school supplies at each table.

Teachers are also treated to a delicious hot breakfast, networking opportunities, and the teachers of the year will be recognized and, of course, tables full of terrific door prizes for the teachers. Each year the teachers leave the event with big smiles and an even bigger bag of supplies on their arm. The bag of supplies means the world to many of these teachers. For every item in that bag, it is money they did not have to spend out of their own pocket to support the children of the community.

The chamber is seeking companies and residents to donate supplies and raffle prizes. They can drop off donations at the Suncoast Credit Union, 10405 Gibsonton Drive or the chamber office at 10101 Bloomingdale Avenue.
