Teacher is accused of lewdness

ST. PETERSBURG — An Azalea Middle School teacher was arrested Saturday and accused of trading nude pictures with a 14-year-old boy.

Police say Christy Lynn Martin, 32, of 3457 Lynn Lake Drive South, C, used a cell phone to exchange pictures with the eighth-grader last weekend.

The boy told investigators he and the teacher had an unspecified "relationship."

"My understanding is he is not one of her current students, but may have been one," said police spokesman Bill Proffitt.

Martin sent her photos Feb. 28 and March 1, records say, and the teen sent an image of himself March 1.

Police say they began investigating Saturday after the boy told an adult relative about his relationship with Martin.

Martin admitted to sending the pictures, police said.

Martin was a teaching assistant at the school before becoming full-time teacher in fall 2008, police said.

The school's Web site lists her as a computer business applications and life choices teacher. School officials could not be reached Saturday.

Martin was charged with of transmitting pornographic images through an electronic device and transmitting material harmful to a minor. She was held on $20,000 bail.
