SPRING PARENT INSTITUTE: The Hernando County School District invites parents to the 10th annual Spring Parent Institute from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 12 at Fox Chapel Middle School. Angela Walker will present "The Math-a-Phobia Hotline Workshop," designed around a call-in show to the "Math Doctor," who helps kids figure out mathematical ways of dealing with a variety of issues. Registration will be from 5:30 to 6 p.m.; there will be exhibitors and a complimentary light dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The institute program begins at 6:30 p.m. Fox Chapel is at 9412 Fox Chapel Lane in Spring Hill. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Stage West Community Playhouse is offering five scholarships: the Irv Clark Scholarship for Voice for $2,000, three Youth Scholarships of $1,000 each for theater arts studies and one Appreciation Scholarship of $1,000 for a student who has volunteered at Stage West and may not be studying voice or theater arts. Applications are available at Spring Hill high schools and at the Stage West box office at 5390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. Box office hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The deadline is April 5.

SPRINGSTEAD HIGH: The band will hold an electronics recycling event to raise money. It is seeking working or non-working electronics, such as laptops, towers, servers, mainframes, mice, hard drives, mother or other boards, CPU chips, modems, routers, keyboards, SD or SIM cards, fax machines, printers, calculators, shredders, other office machines, any kind of wires, power supplies, radios, MP3 players, CD players, other music players, game equipment or controllers, DVD players, remotes, VCRs, cell phones, pagers, corded or wireless phones, medical equipment, digital picture frames, cameras, camcorders, tape recorders, small kitchen appliances, tools, plasma TVs or DLP screen monitors. Projection screens, old-style televisions or any other monitors except flat screens will not be accepted. Items will be collected from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 31 at the Hernando County Farmers Market at the Village at Timber Pines on U.S. 19 in Spring Hill. WEST HERNANDO MIDDLE: The School Advisory Council and Title I Committee will meet at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in the media center. All students and parents are welcome.
