HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL CONCERT: The choral departments of all five Hernando County high schools — Hernando, Springstead, Central, Nature Coast Technical and Weeki Wachee — will join to present two holiday concerts at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill.
The concerts will include a group of about 220 singing a variety of Christmas favorites. The concerts are free, but tickets are required because of limited seating. For tickets, call (352) 476-9086.
JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT: Junior Achievement is looking for volunteer role models to inspire eighth-grade students to stay in school.
A volunteer may be a business owner, professional, company employee, parent or community leader. Volunteers will be required to complete a registration form and a background check before attending a training session. No experience is required.
Volunteers will attend a 90-minute training session provided by Junior Achievement and do a presentation to a class of students a week later. The training includes a review of the specific curriculum and activities provided, as well as suggestions for the most effective presentation of the material and teaching tips. Student character traits will also be reviewed.
On Diploma-see day, volunteers will present the Junior Achievement hands-on financial literacy material in teams from 8 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers work in the classroom to present the curriculum and share work and life experiences that reinforce the importance of staying in school.
For more information, contact Kym McGee at (727) 424-8922 or firstname.lastname@example.org. To volunteer, register by completing the JA of Tampa Bay 2013-14 volunteer biographical form at jatampabay.org.
